Why work with a Coach?

Choosing to work with any heath and wellness professional is a deeply personal decision. You should have someone who understands your current position and where you want to go.

To ease your mind, here are some answers to popular questions about health coaching and a glimpse into my story.

Hello! I’m Miranda and I am a healthy eating coach on a mission. The way American women have been trained to think about food is WRONG!!

I grew up thinking that going on a diet was normal. From middle school until the end of high school, I eagerly absorbed the message that food was something to restrict because it was inherently bad.

That errant messaging continues to this day…

Every week you hear about some new fad diet that guarantees incredible results in a short amount of time. While that sounds great, the gurus promoting them forget how hard it is to re-arrange your life for this new break through. Most women have full time jobs and busy home lives, so turning everything upside down is not sustainable!

Trust me, I used to be one of those women who tried every diet. Here’s a small glimpse into the methods I’ve tried:

  • Slim Fast left me hungry as hell.
  • Doing Atkins/South Beach/Keto created side effects that made me uncomfortable.

My thinking changed in 2013 when an accident changed my life forever! A walk to the library ended in fall that wrecked my knees and back. Doctors put me on very restrictive bed rest (18+ hours a day!!). Gaining weight during my recovery was my biggest fear!

Luckily, I’d already been eating healthy options like oatmeal, Greek yogurt and protein smoothies. With my family’s help, I stocked up on these items and other easy to prepare options.

Six months later, I had lost 30 pounds with NO EXERCISE!!! Seven years later, I’m down 80 and never follow a diet. My passion an mission is to guide women on how to incorporate healthy foods in a way that is SUSTAINABLE for where they are in the present.

Nutrition is a huge part of your life but it shouldn’t control your life. The best place to start is to acknowledge where you are now.

From there, you can make decisions about how to make consistent improvements. It can be as small as replacing a can of soda with a glass of water. Or it can be as major as eliminating specific food groups to find if you have sensitivities or allergies.

Working with a health coach will help you create SUSTAINABLE changes.

Let’s re-work your understanding of a “diet.” Most people think of fad programs like Atkins, Zone or Weight Watchers.

A diet is actually a combination of multiple factors such as your gender, age, physical activity, cultural considerations, and whichever foods are locally available (1).

So, the best diet to follow is one that takes every one of these factors into account and modifies it to make your current choices and preferences healthier.

Calories are typically the unit of measurement most health and wellness professionals monitor.

Working with me, however, we will shift your focus to counting nutrients!

Whole, plant-based foods are chock full of macronutrients (carbs, fats and proteins) and micronutrients (vitamins and minerals). Every time a food contains the right balance of macro- and micro-nutrients, the calories are naturally moderated.

Welcome to a New Approach To Healthy Eating

As a healthy eating coach and future registered dietitian, I teach women SOLID nutritional principles. The macro-nutrients (carbohydrates, fats and proteins) exist for a reason. When you understand those reasons, you can find creative ways to incorporate them into your life.

Below, you’ll find some of my most popular articles explaining principles that influence everything about healthy eating and nutrition.
